Check out some our old skool Pentium 90Mhz 3D modelling, from back in the day when you have to wait 10 hours for a single render!

Can't recall all the stats (I'll try to dig them up), I think it was 3GB or 30GB hard drive, and 128MB or 256MB RAM - and that was a hot machine back then ;)

We hope to dust off those 3D fingers soon and get back into creating - watch this space in 2013!

In the mean time, I wonder if these 3D model files can still be printed...

Watch - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Watch
(circa 1999)

When playing around with various 3D packages you need things to model - things with shapes and components that are suited to the process - so you often find yourself looking at your desk for items to recreate - and on that desk was my watch. I've changed the colours but apart from that it's a pretty accurate representation of of the real thing - I'll see if I can find the original watch and post up here sometime for comparison.

This was one of my most ambitious undertakings back in the day, especially giving the hardware I was using - even rotating the image was clunky and laggy, and had to be handled very delicately. The bezel was particularly fiddly and had to be done in 4 separate sections (I can't recall why).

Dinner for One
(circa 1999)

Bored of just creating 3D objects I wanted to put them in a scene and light it - so this is how this image 'Dinner For One' came about. Very pleased with the end result, the only thing missing is the flame, was going to do this in Photoshop but never got round to it.

Below are the individual objects themselves, everything created entirely from scratch.

Candlestick - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Candlestick
(circa 1999)

Simple but effective. The candlestick is an outline flipped 360 degree, the candle a cylinder chopped at an angle.

Wine Bottle & Wine Glass - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Components: Wine Bottle & Wine Glass
(circa 1999)

Easy, profile outline and extrude 360 degrees. Glass is always great to play with in 3D because of the transparency and reflections.

Dinner Plate - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Dinner Plate
(circa 1999)

This came out perfectly, again a simple outline and extrude 360 degrees... are you starting to see a pattern here ;)

Ashtray - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Ashtray
(circa 1999)

Can't recall how I created this one, was likely an outline, 360 extrude then use another object to delete the cigarette holder bits.

Salt & Pepper Sellers - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Salt & Pepper Sellers
(circa 1999)

Yep, you've guessed it, outline, 360 extrude, zzzzzzz

Knife & Fork - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Knife & Form
(circa 1999)

These were buggers, never been happy with these but figured you wouldn't notice in the final piece (see 'Dinner for One' above). The fork you will notice is flat - perhaps a camping fork ;)

Matchbox - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Match Box
(circa 1999)

So simple but so effective - applying a texture to just a simple solid object makes all the difference :) Textures created in Photoshop.

Table Top - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Table Top
(circa 1999)

Mahogany, with a bevel, of course ;)

Cigarette - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Cigarette
(circa 1999)

Simple, bu effective, textures on a cylinder.

Cork - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Dinner for One Component: Cork
(circa 1999)

Attention to detail, the cork has to look right ;)

If you look closely the ribbed effect is the same effect as I used in Flying Saucer below.

Space Ship Fighter - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Space Ship Fighter
(circa 1999)

This was a tutorial on from Creative Arts, we followed the tutorial but put our own nuances on there. The whole model was created from scratch.

PC Monitor - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

PC Monitor
(circa 1999)

PS - yes, this is what monitor looked like only a decade ago!

Desktop PC - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Green Worm - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Green Worm
(circa 1999)

This one was easy to create, it's essentially just a bunch of spheres! The mouth is merely an edge of a ring shape that has been deleted from the head sphere.

BMX Bicycle - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

BMX Bicycle
(circa 1999)

Ok, so it's a bit wonky but still a good effort - the seat was the trickiest bit!

SCG Logo - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

SCG Logo
(circa 1999)

One of the few times I used my very expensive graphics tablet!

3D Images Header - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

3D Images Header
(circa 1999)

You can do this in Word and PowerPoint these days!

Flying Saucer - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Flying Saucer
(circa 1999)

The Aliens have landed! This one was really easy, its really just two parts, both parts created in the same way - an outline them spin that 360 degrees to get the solid shapes.

Yellow Mug - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Yellow Mug
(circa 1999)

It was on my table so I modelled it! :) Could never get the hang of 3D coffe tho ;)

Plastic Cup - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Plastic Cup
(circa 1999)

It was on my desk so I modelled it! Easy one this, create an outline and spin 360 degrees.

Springs - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Springs
(circa 1999)

This was created to be a desktop backgroud - 3 springs that were then warped. Looked cool way back then ;)

Islands 1 - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Islands 2 - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Islands 3 - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Misc Bryce 3D Landscapes
(circa 1999)

A loved / hate relaitonship with Bryce 3D which these were created on - you could create some great organic landscapes but the interface was very frustrating! These were early plays, didn't take it any further because of the interface.

Gyro B/W - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Gyro RGB - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Demo One - 3D Model - Copyright 1999 3DPrint3

Miscellaneous Animated GIFs
(circa 1999)

Simple 3D GIF animations, thought I'd include anyways. The top one in monochrome, these always came out better because of the 256 colour limit on GIFs!

More to add in 2013 when I plan to flex those 3D muscles once more now that technology has caught up ;)
