Watch

When playing around with various 3D packages you need things to model - things with shapes and components that are suited to the process - so you often find yourself looking at your desk for items to recreate - and on that desk was my watch. I've changed the colours but apart from that it's a pretty accurate representation of of the real thing - I'll see if I can find the original watch and post up here sometime for comparison.

This was one of my most ambitious undertakings back in the day, especially giving the hardware I was using - even rotating the image was clunky and laggy, and had to be handled very delicately. The bezel was particularly fiddly and had to be done in 4 separate sections (I can't recall why).

Dinner for One

Bored of just creating 3D objects I wanted to put them in a scene and light it - so this is how this image 'Dinner For One' came about. Very pleased with the end result, the only thing missing is the flame, was going to do this in Photoshop but never got round to it.

Below are the individual objects themselves, everything created entirely from scratch.

Dinner for One Component: Candlestick

Simple but effective. The candlestick is an outline flipped 360 degree, the candle a cylinder chopped at an angle.

Dinner for One Components: Wine Bottle & Wine Glass

Easy, profile outline and extrude 360 degrees. Glass is always great to play with in 3D because of the transparency and reflections.

This came out perfectly, again a simple outline and extrude 360 degrees... are you starting to see a pattern here ;)

Can't recall how I created this one, was likely an outline, 360 extrude then use another object to delete the cigarette holder bits.

These were buggers, never been happy with these but figured you wouldn't notice in the final piece (see 'Dinner for One' above). The fork you will notice is flat - perhaps a camping fork ;)

So simple but so effective - applying a texture to just a simple solid object makes all the difference :) Textures created in Photoshop.

Attention to detail, the cork has to look right ;)

If you look closely the ribbed effect is the same effect as I used in Flying Saucer below.

Space Ship Fighter

This was a tutorial on from Creative Arts, we followed the tutorial but put our own nuances on there. The whole model was created from scratch.

Green Worm

This one was easy to create, it's essentially just a bunch of spheres! The mouth is merely an edge of a ring shape that has been deleted from the head sphere.

The Aliens have landed! This one was really easy, its really just two parts, both parts created in the same way - an outline them spin that 360 degrees to get the solid shapes.

Springs

This was created to be a desktop backgroud - 3 springs that were then warped. Looked cool way back then ;)

Misc Bryce 3D Landscapes

A loved / hate relaitonship with Bryce 3D which these were created on - you could create some great organic landscapes but the interface was very frustrating! These were early plays, didn't take it any further because of the interface.

Miscellaneous Animated GIFs

Simple 3D GIF animations, thought I'd include anyways. The top one in monochrome, these always came out better because of the 256 colour limit on GIFs!
